The Twelve Questions of Jesus

The Twelve Questions of Jesus

Jesus often taught through questions.
Not to win arguments, but to awaken the human heart.

The following questions are meant to do the same.

Take your time with them. Sit with them. Let them challenge assumptions and invite deeper reflection on the teachings of Jesus.

1. Who do you say that Jesus is?

Jesus once asked his disciples this question.

“Who do you say that I am?” — Matthew 16:15

Is Jesus merely the founder of a religion, or is he the one who reveals the true nature of God and the path to life?

2. Why do you call me “Lord” but do not do what I say?

Jesus asked this question directly.

“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” — Luke 6:46

If Jesus is truly Lord, why are his clearest teachings so often ignored?

3. What does it profit a person to gain the whole world and lose their soul?

“What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” — Mark 8:36

In a culture driven by success, wealth, and power, what does it actually mean to live a life that is whole?

4. If the Kingdom of God is within you, why do we keep searching everywhere else for life?

Jesus taught that the Kingdom of God is nearer than most people realize.

Could it be that the transformation we seek begins within?

5. Can we claim to follow the Prince of Peace while justifying violence?

Jesus taught his followers to love their enemies, forgive those who harm them, and refuse retaliation.

If that is the way of Jesus, what does it mean for how we think about violence today?

6. What would the world look like if Christians actually practiced enemy-love?

Jesus did not merely suggest loving enemies.

He commanded it.

What would change in our lives, our churches, and our societies if this teaching were taken seriously?

7. Why has Christianity sometimes become more about beliefs than about following the way of Jesus?

Jesus invited people to follow him.

But over time, has Christianity sometimes replaced discipleship with doctrine alone?

8. Are we more committed to defending our traditions than listening to the teachings of Jesus?

Throughout the Gospels, Jesus often challenged religious systems that had drifted away from the heart of God.

Could the same thing still happen today?

9. Why do we fear losing our lives when Jesus taught that life is found by giving it away?

“Whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.” — Matthew 16:25

What does it mean to trust the paradox at the center of Jesus’ teaching?

10. Are we building religious institutions, or learning to live the way Jesus lived?

The earliest followers of Jesus were known simply as people who belonged to the Way.

What would it mean to rediscover that path today?

11. If Jesus reveals the character of God, what does his life tell us about the nature of God?

Jesus loved enemies, forgave sinners, healed the broken, and refused violence.

If this is what God is like, how should that reshape our understanding of faith?

12. What would your life look like if you truly lived the teachings of Jesus?

Not just believing them.

Not just discussing them.

But actually living them.

These questions are not meant to condemn.
They are meant to invite reflection.

The teachings of Jesus have the power to reshape the human heart and transform the world.

But first, we must be willing to ask the questions.
