In this brief video excerpt, Bible teacher/researcher Jerry Robinson discusses the many mysteries in the Bible and explains that they can only be apprehended and understood through revelation, not reason.
The word “mystery” appears 28 times in the New Testament.
It is translated from the Greek word, mustérion and literally means “a mystery or secret doctrine.”
This word for mystery is derived from the Greek word, “muo,” which literally means “to shut the mouth” (as in keeping a secret).

This video is an excerpt from our full-length teaching entitled: The Mystery of the Kingdom.
[/feature_box]Here’s a broader definition of this word from the Strong’s Concordance: “a mystery, secret, of which initiation is necessary; in the NT: the counsels of God, once hidden but now revealed in the Gospel or some fact thereof; the Christian revelation generally; particular truths or details of the Christian revelation.”
So too, the HELPS Word-studies says this about the word “mustérion.”
“In the Bible, a “mystery” is not something unknowable. Rather, it is what can only be known through revelation, i.e. because God reveals it.”
