This is an excerpt from a new full-length teaching by Jerry Robinson entitled: A Biblical View of the American Revolution. (You can watch the full online video teaching here.)
Thomas Jefferson is lauded by all Americans as a powerful force and key architect of America’s form of government.
Despite referring to Christianity as America’s “particular superstition” and accusing the God of the Old Testament as “a being of terrific character, cruel, vindictive, capricious, and unjust,” Jefferson gets a pass from most modern American Christians due to his outsized role in America’s early formation.
Stop to think about it for a minute: When have you ever heard a critical word about Thomas Jefferson from an American pastor?
Have you ever?
What if Thomas Jefferson, the man who wrote about “God” in America’s founding documents, turned out to be someone that you and your church would call a heretic?
Thanks to the man’s own vast writings, we don’t have to guess about his views on God, Jesus, the Old and New Testaments, and even the most fundamental Christian doctrines.
In this brief, yet impactful, video, Bible teacher/author Jerry Robinson shares the hard truth about Thomas Jefferson simply by digging up and quoting his writings about the Bible, Jesus Christ, and the Church.
Put simply, Jefferson did not simply document his own repudiation of faith in a risen Christ. Jefferson utterly rejects outright nearly all of the most important Christian doctrines with his own pen for all future generations to see.
- Jefferson denied that Jesus was the Son of God.
- He denied Christ was born of a virgin.
- He denied the authenticity of the Old and New Testaments.
- He denied that Jesus performed miracles.
- He denied that Jesus rose from the dead.
So too, Thomas Jefferson denied belief in the Biblical doctrines of original sin, atonement, regeneration, and election.
And yet, how many American Christian pastors continue to uphold Jefferson’s influence and to champion his ideals even today?

Few modern American Christians today are familiar with the Jefferson Bible, which is the cut and paste version of the Bible created by the author of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson.
Jefferson had a strong disdain for the miracles described in the Bible, which he felt were mischievously attributed to Christ by his “rogue biographers.” (This is how Jefferson described the writers of the historic gospel accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.)
Jefferson denied that Jesus performed miracles and did not believe that Jesus rose from the dead.
As a shining example of the “Enlightenment,” Jefferson sought to rescue the historical Jesus, whom Jefferson believed was nothing more than a mere man, from all of the unreasonable “superstitious” additions these “rogue biographers” had invented to deceive later generations.
Jefferson’s solution was literally to cut out the parts (with scissors) from the pages of the Gospel accounts which he believed were fabricated or added later.
His final product, which he entitled The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth, Extracted Textually From the Gospels in Greek, Latin, French & English, removes nearly all of the miracles performed by Christ.
The Jefferson Bible concludes with Christ’s execution and burial while omitting the resurrection.
In this brief, yet impactful, video, Bible teacher/author Jerry Robinson shares the facts about the Jefferson Bible and asks penetrating questions about why so many modern American pastors and church leaders continue to uncritically celebrate and even champion Jefferson’s intellect while ignoring his blasphemy towards the Scripture and our Lord Jesus Christ. As someone once said, these are questions that demand answers.
The Jefferson Bible is on display in the Smithsonian Museum and can be read online here.
While Jefferson was often careful to hide his real animosity towards Christianity while in the public eye, he would often reveal his disdain for the Church and its teachings in his private letters.
In this brief, yet impactful, video, Bible teacher/author Jerry Robinson shares just one example of Jefferson’s attacks on the Apostle John in a letter he penned to Alexander Smyth on January 17, 1825. You can read the full letter here.
As you will discover, Jefferson attacks the Book of Revelation as the “writings of a maniac” in this letter and encourages his penpal to avoid reading it because doing so would be a waste of his time.
Jefferson concludes the letter by explaining that he does not view the Book of Revelation as a true revelation from the “supreme being.”
– Jefferson denied that Jesus was the Son of God.
– He denied Christ was born of a virgin.
– He claimed the gospel accounts were fraudulent.
– He claimed Jesus performed no miracles.
– He claimed that Jesus did not rise from the dead.
It was this same man who wrote about “Nature’s God” in America’s founding documents. This calls for discernment.
